How to Write and Publish Blog Posts (AI Site Builder)
Last updated October 16, 2026 · Owners and office staff
Your website has a blog. Posts are short articles such as seasonal tips, project stories or answers to questions your customers ask. They help people in your area find you on Google, and they show visitors that your business is active.
Posts publish on their own. You do not need to publish your whole website to put a post online, and publishing your website never puts a half-written post online.
Before you start
- Open your site in the editor (Tools > Website > Edit website) and choose More tools > Blog (in Advanced mode, Blog at the top), next to Add page. Choose Back to pages (or press Esc) to return to your pages.
- Writing, editing and publishing posts is free. AI help uses credits, and the cost is always shown first. See AI Credits in the Site Builder.
- Upload a few photos of your work first if you want photos in your posts. See Change Your Design and Photos.
Steps
Write a post yourself
- Choose New post.
- Type a title, then write the post in the box below it. Use Heading and Subheading to break it into parts, and the buttons for bold text, bulleted lists and numbered lists.
- To add a link, select some words and choose the link button. Pick a page of your site, another post, a web address, a phone number or an email address.
- To add a photo, choose the photo button, pick a photo from your library and describe what it shows. The description helps Google and people who use screen readers.
- Your post saves as you type. The editor says Saved when it is up to date.
If you paste text from another program, the post keeps headings, bold, lists and links. Other formatting, such as colors, fonts and tables, is removed, and the editor tells you so.
Draft a post with AI
- Choose Draft with AI. If you have no posts yet, you can also tap one of the topic ideas.
- Say what the post should be about, and add any facts or local details you want in it.
- Choose Draft my post. The dialog shows the cost and how many AI drafts you have left today.
- Read the draft. Choose Keep it to make it your post, or Undo to throw it away. A draft you throw away is deleted, and nothing goes on your website until you keep a post and publish it.
The AI writes for homeowners in your area. It does not invent prices, reviews, ratings, awards, licenses or statistics. It only states facts that are in your business information or that you typed in.
You can draft up to 5 posts with AI per day. You can always write and edit posts yourself.
Post settings
The panel next to your post holds its settings:
- Featured photo: shown at the top of the post and when someone shares it.
- Summary: the short text shown in your post list. If you leave it empty, your first paragraph is used.
- Categories: group posts by kind, for example Lawn care tips or Projects. Up to 3 per post.
- Web address: the address of the post under /blog/. It follows the title until you first publish. If you change it later, the old address keeps working and forwards to the new one.
- Google: the search title and description, and Hide this post from Google if you want the post on your site but not in search results. Write with AI writes the search title and description for you.
Check your post
The Post checklist ring shows how ready your post is. It lists anything that stops it from publishing, such as a missing title, and tips such as a very short post, a long search title, a spelling slip or a claim to confirm. These checks are free.
For a closer look, choose Check this post. Your Proofreader fixes spelling and grammar and lists any claims you should confirm, such as “licensed” or “20 years”. To change the whole post, choose Improve with AI and say what should change. Both show the change first, with Keep it or Undo.
Publish or schedule a post
- Choose Publish. The dialog lists anything you must fix first, and anything worth a look that you can skip.
- Choose Publish now, or Pick a date:
- A future date schedules the post. It appears on your website at that time, within a couple of minutes.
- An earlier date publishes it now and shows that date as its publish date. This is useful for a post you are moving from another website.
- When the post is live, the dialog shows its address with Copy and Open.
If your website is not published yet, your post is marked as published and appears as soon as you publish your website.
Read the post list
Each post in the list has a status: Draft, Scheduled for a date (in your company’s time zone), Published, Published with changes (edited since it went live) or AI draft, not kept yet (choose Keep it or Undo on it).
Change a published post
Edit the post as usual. Your changes save to your draft and do not go online until you choose Update post. The post list shows Published with changes until then. Discard changes puts the post back to what is on your website.
Unpublish or delete a post
- Unpublish takes the post off your website and makes it a draft again. You can publish it again later.
- Delete removes the post. If it was on your website, it disappears from there too.
Both ask you to confirm first. You find them on the post, and under More in the post list.
Show your blog on your website
- Once a post is published, a Blog link appears in your website’s menu.
- Choose Blog page settings to rename the menu link, hide it, move it in the menu, change the heading and introduction of your blog page, and pick a list style. These settings go live when you publish your website.
- To show your newest posts on a page, use the Show your latest posts guide (below).
Show your latest posts on a page
After you publish your first post, choose Next in the publish dialog and a short guide asks where your newest posts should appear. You can open the same guide any time from Show your latest posts at the top of the Blog, from Sections (choose Show your latest posts in the list and Add), or from your SEO Expert’s suggestion in More tools > Tips from your AI team (Choose where).
- Where: pick your Home page (suggested first), About, Services or any other page. The footer is listed too; if your footer design has no room for posts, it says so and you pick a page instead.
- How many posts: 3 is the default, and you can show from 1 to 6.
- Style: Cards (a photo, the title and a short summary for each post), List (titles with dates and summaries, one under the other) or Featured (your newest post large, the others smaller beside it).
- The preview shows exactly what changes, on the page you picked. The posts go after the page’s main content and before its contact form or call to action, so the page still ends on how to reach you.
- Choose Keep it to add it, or Undo (or close the guide) to leave your site as it was. Nothing is added until you choose Keep it.
If a page already shows your posts, the guide starts from its current number and style, and your choice updates that section instead of adding a second one. The posts appear on your website the next time you publish it. To change your mind later, open Sections: you can edit, move, hide or delete the section like any other, or pick a category so it shows only those posts.
Ask in chat
Typing something like “Write a blog post about spring cleanup” in the chat opens Draft with AI with the topic filled in. It never drafts without asking you.
Tips
- Write about what your customers ask you. A post that answers a real question is the one people search for.
- Aim for at least 300 words. Very short posts rarely show up on Google.
- Link to a service page or your contact page so readers can take the next step.
- Add a featured photo of your own work. Posts with a photo get more clicks when shared.
Troubleshooting
- “This post was changed in another tab”: you edited the post in two places. The editor loaded the latest version; redo your last change.
- “You’ve used all your AI drafts for today”: more are available tomorrow. You can still write posts yourself.
- “The AI couldn’t write that safely. You were not charged.”: try a different topic or wording.
- “Your site has a page at /blog. Rename that page first.”: your blog uses the /blog address. Rename the page that uses it, then publish your post.
- “We couldn’t update your blog just now”: choose Try again. Your post is saved, and the blog on your website keeps showing what it showed before.
- No credits left: AI help offers Buy more credits. Writing, checking and publishing posts yourself stays free.
